Day 2, The French Riders soar at home

Saturday – is Downhill Day – finals of both the Juniors and the Elite categories were on the Mont Chery Track. Over 30,000 spectators were here to see a great day with a french rider on each of the 4 podiums – what a day !

DHI juniors finals

The girls were up first with the Austrian rider – Valentina HOLL taking the 1st spot by a 12 second margin – 2ndon the podium was Anna NEWKIRK and representing the first French place on the podium of the weekend – Lauryne CHAPPAZ on 3rd – well done girls. The boys – saw a French Rider in top place – No 1 on the podium – Thibaut DAPRELA, the 2ndand 3rd places were taken by two Canadian riders – Patrick LAFFEY and Seth SHERLOCK.

DHI Elite Finals

In the Elite category, interest was rising knowing that there were strong contenders both in the Womens & Men’s races. The women were up first – a great atmosphere on track and alot of local French support.   Tracey HANNAH of Australia was on top of the podium with closely followed second place by French rider Marine CABIROU, an excellent run with alot of local support and third place from Mariana SALAZAR.
 
The Men’s category – saw the riders laying down some awesome runs – Brendan FAIRCLOUGH from start number 28 – stayed on top spot till he was knocked off by fellow Brit Laurie GREENLAND. The atmosphere mounting as the last 4 riders hit the track.  Loris VERGIER of France came in 5th, with Australian’s Troy BROSNAN in 4th.  The last two riders down the track were both French – the crowds were going wild as Loic BRUNI descended the track and beat the 3 minute mark to go top – still one last rider to go – Amaury PIERRON – was just too quick on each of the splits the lights were green as he negiotiated the technical sections of the course – to cross the finish line to one of the biggest crowds seen at a World Cup – as Number One.

Side events

The excitement continues tonight with the Side Events – 
Balance Bike Race for kids – just over 20 kids took part in the race in the centre of the village – with lots of smiles and laughter – it was a great race.
 
The Dual Slalom by P2V – a course specifically designed for the World Cup – the track was set on the grass – which made for a technical and interesting ride for the competitors.
 
Bringing Day Two to an exciting close with a huge win for the french riders across the 4 podiums and an incredible atmosphere in the village with an massive turn out.  The French partied hard till the early hours of the morning.
